Six For Sunday: Around the world in 80 books – Characters I Think Deserve A Holiday

Good afternoon! After two posts last week I’m actually sharing the right prompt on the right day today! Although later in the afternoon – can you tell this wasn’t scheduled in advance… This week we got a bit of a better idea of the route out of lockdown in Scotland which has given me a bit of hope! Brighter times are ahead and while it’s absolutely right not to rush things the concept of being able to get back into Edinburgh delights me! It’s only across the water from me, but because I’m in a different local authority area I’ve not been able to visit in months!

Six for Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Steph at ALITTLEBUTALOT. You can find a list of prompts for January, February and March here

Characters I Think Deserve A Holiday

This was surprisingly tricky! Some of these picks are from relatively recent releases so I’m trying to say why I think they deserve a holiday without giving away too many spoilers!

Marianne from the Isles Of Storm And Sorrow trilogy by Bex Hogan

No direct spoilers here but Marianne goes through a lot in the Viper (and Venom). She doesn’t always make the best decision but if anyone deserves a bit of a break from (insert all sorts of spoilers here) it’s Marianne! She might not be the type of sit a chill on a beach with a book given everything but I’m sure she could learn to love it!

Flick from the The Strangeworld’s Travel Agency series by L. D. Lapinski

Flick may seem like a strange choice given that she spends a lot of the book popping through suitcases and exploring new worlds but without giving too much away there’s quite a lot of expectation placed on her at home regarding childcare and there was definitely a bit (or a lot) of a hidden agenda behind the worlds she visited, and some of them were a little stressful. So I think Flick deserves the chance to pick somewhere to go, agenda free where she can just enjoy herself without worries.

Deka from the Deathless trilogy by Namina Forna

Again trying to avoid spoilers Deka goes through a lot in The Gilded Ones. It is a brutal book and Deka is right in the middle of it all. I have a distinct feeling that things aren’t going to get much easier for her in the second book so maybe a quick pals trip somewhere with Britta would do them both good!

Ant and Bea from the Ant and Bea Mysteries series by Rachel Ward

Ant and Bea have found themselves in the middle of three crimes in their little town now. The case in Expiry Date was particularly tough for Bea to go through for a number of reasons and Ant has had a lot going on for pretty much his entire life so I think they deserve a little week somewhere with a little sun. Maybe the Costa Del Sol…

Jules from the Everless duology by Sara Holland

Jules goes through an awful lot of loss over the course of the two books, family, friends, people that had the chance to become more… After dealing with everything that she does a little trip away to relax sounds like it might be a good idea for her!

Tony McLean from the Inspector McLean series by James Oswald

I must confess that no matter how much I’ve loved this series I have fallen a little behind with it! The last book I listened to was The Gathering Dark so I think I’ve 3 books to catch up on. I do need to re-read The Gathering Dark as it’s been so long now but from what I remember there was a pretty heartbreaking ending so I think getting away for a while might be beneficial for Tony!

They were my #SixforSunday! If you’ve taken part leave a link to your post below and I’ll be sure to check it out!
