Looking Forward To 2020 – My Most Anticipated Middle Grade Reads

You’ve had five days of me looking back at the books I’ve read and things I watched in 2019 and now it’s time to look forward to some of the books due for release in 2020!

The books on my list come from scouring publishers catalogues and searching Goodreads for authors who have released books I enjoyed in 2019. Not all publishers have made catalogues available to the general public on their website, and for those that have they’re mainly focused on the first half of the year. I’m quite sure over the course of the year more books will catch my eye and I’ll feature them in monthly posts!

I’m starting today with my most anticipated middle grade reads! I couldn’t find covers for all of the releases yet but I’ve included those I could. Titles link to Goodreads or Waterstones for more information if any of them take your fancy! Finally release dates are correct to the best of my knowledge currently but are subject to change, one of the books I was looking forward to already seems to have slipped to 2021!

Shadowsea by Peter Bunzl – Release date: 9th January 2020

I actually saw this in Waterstones at the end of December but I can never remember if buying a book early impacts first week sales or not so I left it. I adored Cogheart though and the other two books in the series are sitting on my shelf ready to be read

The Highland Falcon Thief by M. G. Leonard and Sam Sedgman – Release date: 30th January 2020

I do love a mystery novel, they were some of my favourite things to read growing up so this sounds great fun. It’s the first in a new series so I really hope it’s as good as I want it to be!

A Sprinkle Of Sorcery by Michelle Harrison – Release date: 6th February 2020

I confess I’ve not read the first in this series yet, but I own it and the covers are so pretty, therefore it must be good! I’ve heard many good things so I’m really looking forward to getting to both of these

Amelia Fang and the Naughty Caticorns by Laura Ellen Anderson – Release date: 20th February 2020

This one will be preordered for my goddaughter. I absolutely adore the cover, the caticorns are so cute!

Winterborne Home For Vengeance And Valor by Ally Carter – Release date: 5th March 2020

I enjoyed Ally’s Not If I Save You First so I’m intrigued to see what her middle grade novel is like. Also that title! If that doesn’t excite you I don’t know what will.

Star Switch by Alesha Dixon – Release date: 5th March 2020

I think this is the top end of middle grade, possibly a teen book but I’m intrigued, it’s co-written with Katy Birchall like her Lightning Girl series. I think the swapping lives premise is one that’s been done a lot so I’m interested to see if this story can hold its own among them.

The Cut-Throat Cafe by Nicki Thornton – Release date: 2nd April 2020

I just loved the first mystery and really need to catch up with the second before this third book in the series comes out! I love the cover!

The Strangeworlds Travel Agency by L. D. Lapinski – Release date: 30th April 2020

Some bloggers I know have already got their hands on this one and have nothing but good things to say about it so I cannot wait to get a copy!

Don’t Tell Him I’m A Mermaid by Laura Kirkpatrick – Release date: 30th April 2020

So I’m a bad person that hasn’t read the first in this series despite the fact I preordered it. That said I’ve loved everything I’ve read from Laura so I’m sure this will be no different!

Jungledrop by Abi Elphinstone – Release date: 14th May 2020

I adored Everdark and Rumblestar last year so I’m so keen to get a copy of this next book in the series! I’m looking forward to the next world and set of characters Abi introduces us to! I can’t wait for the cover reveal as the first two have been beautiful
