About the book:

Amelia Fang is the biggest hearted vampiress you’ll ever meet. In this adventure, she and her friends Florence the yeti (DON’T CALL HER BEAST), Grimaldi the Death and Prince Tangine (reformed spoiled sprout), along with her pet pumpkin Squashy, must brave the journey to the terrifying Kingdom of the Light to try to find Tangine’s missing mother, Queen Fairyweather.

But with unicorns, fairies and angel-kittens lurking around every corner, who can they trust? And will they finally uncover the real villain keeping the kingdoms of Light and Dark as mortal enemies?

Join Amelia on her latest adventure. She won’t bite!

What I Thought:

Amelia Fang and the Unicorn Lords is the second book in the Amelia Fang series and is just as fun as the first! Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball saw us discover that the King of Nocturnia had married Fairyweather, a fairy from the Kingdom of the Light but that she had disappeared many years previously. In this book we join Amelia and her friends as they venture into the Kingdom of the Light to try and reunited the king and Tangine with Fairyweather

Once again the book is stunningly illustrated with a map of the Kingdom of the Light and portrait gallery taking up a couple of double page spreads. There are illustrations on most pages which means the text is fairly spread out and the high page count isn’t as daunting as it may seem at first, I read the book myself in an hour or so. At 18 chapters it’s a great introduction to chapter books for young readers who are moving on from the picture book stage. There’s plenty to delight them within the pages, it will make a great bedtime story over the course of a week or so!

I was already familiar with the characters after reading the first book but the illustrations really drove the story on again, I especially loved seeing our friends in their Kingdom of the Light disguises. Squashy the Pumpkin as a daisy was a particular highlight!

Once again our central character Amelia was the driving force of their friendship group. She was determined to reunite Tangine with his mum, and despite a setback or two along the way she kept pushing on, proving once again what I kind hearted little vampire she was! I’m still finding Grimaldi to be the cutest death! I really hope that one of the future books focuses a little more on him!

Final Thoughts

Amelia Fang and the Unicorn Lords was another fantastic book from Laura. With the beautiful illustrations and fun plot I can easily see why this series is so popular with children!
