Top Ten Tuesday – Reading Refreshments

It’s been a couple of week’s since I last took part in Top Ten Tuesday. I just couldn’t even get close to ten things that fit the prompt. This week though it’s all about food and drink and that’s one of my specialities!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Favourite Things To Eat & Drink While Reading

A nice cup of tea

During the winter time especially this is one of my go to beverages. I get a lot of different teas with some of my subscription boxes but I must confess I am a standard cup of tea girl!

Almond M&Ms

I am a huge fan of these, in my opinion they are far superior to peanut M&Ms! I first had them years ago when I visited family in Barbados. They don’t make them in the UK so whenever I or someone I know head across the pond these are the one thing I request they bring back

A flavoured latte

I love sinking into an armchair in a coffee shop and sitting down with a lovely flavoured latte; vanilla, hazelnut, amaretto… One of my next kitchen purchases will be a Nespresso machine I think… Alternatively I love a chai tea latte, no coffee but delicious!

Crumpets smothered in chocolate spread

Now this is a slightly dangerous snack, as you run the risk of dropping chocolate spread on your book if you’re not careful. So I tend to put the book down while I’m eating and then go back to it. It still counts as a reading refreshment right?

Fancy hot chocolate

There is nothing better in the middle of winter than curling up on the sofa with a book and a blanket and a nice giant mug of hot chocolate. I am a fan of Galaxy hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. However I discovered Whittards Hot Chocolate range and I’m hooked. I’ve tried their raspberry ripple, key lime pie and blueberry cheesecake varieties. So tasty!

Something refreshing with a bit of fizz

In the summer when it’s too hot for a hot drink I love something with a bit of sparkle. Belvoir do a delightful raspberry lemonade which has just the right amount of tartness to it. Also something simple like orange juice and lemonade is lovely.

A cheeky alcoholic beverage

At the end of a long week sometimes there’s nothing better than sitting down with a nice glass of wine, a rose like a White Zinfandel being my wine of choice. Alternatively you won’t see me turning down a nice G&T….

Growing up I was never a fan of popcorn, I always preferred sweets to popcorn during my cinema trips but over the years I’ve come to appreciate it. I’m particularly fond of the sweet and salted combination, but I have been known to enjoy some of Joe and Seph’s varieties as well.

Most of the major supermarkets do packs of chocolate chip shortbread. Marks & Spencers is probably my favourite, they do a pack with 4 big squares and it is delightful!

Fruit Juice

I do love a nice glass of orange juice in particular, I have been known to drink glass after glass of the stuff. Regardless of the fact that I’m well aware that drinking too much of it will make me feel awful!

What I’ve discovered writing this is I’m far more likely to be found drinking something while reading than eating! Do you have any preferred reading snacks? Let me know in the comments!
