The Lost Princess is the third book in The Rosewood Chronicles series from Connie Glynn, I’ve not yet read the second but the covers on this series are so pretty! Pippa By Design is a North American book, I’m not sure there’s a UK publisher for it yet but it’s available online and I love the idea of it. Finally of my three chosen books is the third book in the Agatha Oddly series, I’ve really enjoyed the first two so I’m looking forward to discovering what Agatha gets up to next.

Young Adult

I’m actually a bit of an Edgar Allan Poe fan. Although he’s perhaps more well known for his creepy tales he’s considered by many to be the inventor of detective fiction, Arthur Conan Doyle was inspired by him. So I’m most intrigued by this American anthology, His Hideous Heart a collection of his stories re-imagined by YA authors. It’s available from America online from September, I think it publishes in the UK in October. The Wrong Side Of Kai is the latest novel from Estelle Maskame it sounds absolutely brilliant, I’m lucky enough to have been given an advanced copy so I’m hoping to get stuck in this weekend. Finally my third chosen book is How To Be Remy Cameron which is another book that has a really interesting concept, I spotted this one on the Barnes and Nobel YA Blog and I don’t think there’s a UK publisher yet, but it is available online.

His Hideous Heart – Various

Adult

My first choice of novel in the adult category is The Long Call by Ann Cleeves. Now I must confess I have never actually read a book by Ann but I adore the TV adaptations of both her Shetland and Vera Stanhope series so when I discovered her new series appeared to be set in Devon, my home county I needed to give it a go. This one has already found its way to my shelves. Endgame is the third book in the Detective Fawkes series, I’ve really enjoyed the first two so I’m intrigued to see how they wrap it up. The final book comes from a Scottish publisher and is set in Edinburgh, one of my favourite cities that I also have the pleasure of working in. Cat makes a deal with the devil to try and get her life back on track, I’m intrigued to discover what happens!

The Long Call – Ann Cleeves

Release Date: 5th September 2019

In North Devon, where the rivers Taw and Torridge converge and run into the sea, Detective Matthew Venn stands outside the church as his father’s funeral takes place. The day Matthew turned his back on the strict evangelical community in which he grew up, he lost his family too.

Now he’s back, not just to mourn his father at a distance, but to take charge of his first major case in the Two Rivers region; a complex place not quite as idyllic as tourists suppose.

A body has been found on the beach near to Matthew’s new home: a man with the tattoo of an albatross on his neck, stabbed to death.

Finding the killer is Venn’s only focus, and his team’s investigation will take him straight back into the community he left behind, and the deadly secrets that lurk there.
