1. HOW MANY BOOKS ARE TOO MANY FOR A SERIES?
I guess it depends on the story you have to tell! If it reaches to point where books just feel like fillers on the way to the conclusion it’s probably two many books. On the other hand something like a police procedural lends itself to longer series as each book can function as a standalone with some character development going alongside it…
2. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CLIFFHANGERS?
Love to hate them! Honestly I enjoy them even if they’re incredibly frustrating and leave me wanting the next book now. That said a follow up better already be in the works – in TV land nothing frustrates me more than a season ending on a cliffhanger and then the showing getting cancelled so there’s never any outcome!
3. HARDCOVER OR PAPERBACK?
Hardcovers look great on a shelf, and there’s always the chance that a hardback will be hiding some incredibly beautiful design beneath the dust jacket which is one of my favourite bookish things to discover. On the other hand paperbacks and much more convenient to read on the go, carrying a big hardcover on a commute isn’t fun
4. FAVOURITE BOOK?
Quite frankly impossible to answer and I refuse
5. LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK?
I’m not sure about my least favourite book ever… I must confess I didn’t get on with Carrie Hope Fletcher’s book On The Other Side, it’s not that it’s necessarily badly written, I just quickly discovered after reading this and another book in quick succession Magical Realism isn’t for me…
6. LOVE TRIANGLES, YES OR NO?
Being in the middle of one? No thank you! Reading about them… I don’t mind a little bit of drama, but don’t try and push me too obviously in one direction by making one of the three characters a horrible person, I want to be torn over the decision one of the characters has to make, I want to feel bad for whoever loses out!
7. THE MOST RECENT BOOK YOU COULDN’T FINISH?
There’s a couple I put aside but I’m not saying I’ve DNF’d them yet…
8. A BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?
I originally had a different answer to this one but I’m actually updating before posting. I’m currently reading Nothing To Hide, the second DC Constance Fairchild book from James Oswald and loving it!
9. LAST BOOK YOU RECOMMENDED TO SOMEONE?
Yesterday I posted my review of The Girls In The Water by Victoria Jenkins so I guess that….
10. OLDEST BOOK YOU’VE READ BY PUBLICATION DATE?
I have an AS Level in English Literature, one of our set texts was The Miller’s Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer. It was the second of his Canterbury Tales, which were written in the late 1300s.
11. NEWEST BOOK YOU’VE READ BY PUBLICATION DATE?
Can I include my current read? I’m over three quarters done… Nothing To Hide is due out on 25th July. Otherwise Bold Lies by Rachel Lynch which was released in May this year.
12. FAVOURITE AUTHOR?
Oh there are so many authors that I love! Philip Pullman and J. k. Rowling are two standout authors from my childhood. Recently James Oswald and Ben Aaronovitch have become must listen to authors, and Laura Steven and Sara Holland have joined the list of must reads… This week’s Top Ten Tuesday featured my auto buy authors so check that out!
13. BUYING BOOKS OR BORROWING BOOKS?
I buy a lot of books, that tends to be because the library is not super convenient for me to get to and I keep forgetting I can borrow ebooks through the Overdrive app. It does take them a while to get new releases in though so if there’s a book I’m really desperate to read soon after it’s published then I’m definitely taking a trip to a bookshop
14. A BOOK YOU DISLIKE THAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO LOVE?
I’m not sure if everyone really loves this particular book but a lot of people rave about YA author Holly Bourne, I read her first adult novel How Do You Like Me Now? And just didn’t find it enjoyable at all, both the central characters Tori and her partner just irritated me and I couldn’t really feel any empathy for them at all.
15. BOOKMARKS OR DOG EARS?
Bookmarks! Use an old receipt if you must, or a train ticket – put the page number in the notes app on your phone if needs be but do not dog ear your book!
16. A BOOK YOU CAN ALWAYS RE-READ?
I’ve mentioned before how I struggle with re-reading as I read so much crime fiction and once you know who did it re-reading is not as fun. I don’t see a time coming when I won’t enjoy reading Harry Potter again
17. CAN YOU READ WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC?
Absolutely! I’m not sure how much attention I pay to the music but I don’t mind some background noise, in fact I possibly prefer it
18. ONE POV OR MULTIPLE?
Either, I genuinely don’t mind if it’s done well! I like single POV novels at the same time I enjoyed One Of Us Is Lying and Floored
19. DO YOU READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING OR OVER MULTIPLE DAYS?
It tends to be over multiple days but that’s just because most of the time that’s what life allows with other commitments. If it’s a bank holiday or I have a weekend with nothing else to do I’ll happily work my way through a book in one sitting
20. WHO DO YOU TAG?
I suspect most have already completed this, but if not and you’d like to consider yourself tagged!

They were my 20 answers to 20 bookish questions! I hope you enjoyed them!

Holly
Oooh I’ve been meaning to read One of Us is Lying for ages! Glad to hear you enjoyed it 🙂

I will consider myself tagged, as I’ve not done this one before. I don’t read paperbacks or hardcovers though – eBooks or audiobooks always for me.

I’ve not read How Do You Like Me Now? But I’ve not enjoyed extracts of it that I’ve seen at all. I do like a lot of her YA though, particularly Spinster Club. I’ve found her last few quite odd in that I couldn’t really say I enjoyed them but I also thought they were really good though…
