It’s Thursday which means it’s time for another tag, and today I’m tackling The TV Tag! I feel like so far this year I’ve watched more TV than I’ve read so this is somewhat appropriate, that said it was almost as challenging as The A-Z Book Tag I did a little while ago. I first spotted The TV Tag on My World Of Books and the Queen of Tags Amy at Golden Books Girl also completed it recently.
So let’s get started!
Favourite Shows
Oh there are so many! This was ridiculously hard to narrow down but I’ve got it down to just the five…
NCIS – I’ve always enjoyed the show, I adore Gibbs, I think parts of his character remind me slightly of my dad!
Grey’s Anatomy – I certainly came to Grey’s late, I’m not sure why I didn’t watch it when it first started airing but it’s now a weekly must watch
Lucifer – My friend got me hooked on this, I binge watched the first season while staying with him so we could watch the first episode of season two. I was so upset when Fox cancelled it, but now I’m thinking it may have been for the best because I’ve binged Season 4 on Netflix and it was AMAZING!
The West Wing – So this one is a little bit of a throw back but I absolutely adored The West Wing, I have the full series box set. This was just filled with incredible characters and I loved it.
Bones – I’m actually watching a rerun from season 8 as I type this, I loved Brennan and Booth and the show in general had a great mix of humour and pretty gruesome crime!
Favourite genre?
I think probably Crime Dramas – There’s still such a huge variety even within that genre:
Federal Crime Dramas – Criminal Minds and NCIS are the first two to spring to mind.
Science Led Crime Drama – I couldn’t figure out a better way to categorise this, I’m thinking of shows like CSI, Body Of Proof, and Silent Witness
Crime Fiction Adaptations – Crime fiction is one of my favourite genres which probably explains why I love crime dramas so much. Some of my favourite adaptations include Rizzoli & Isles, Bones, Vera, Shetland, Sherlock and Strike.
Least favourite show?
I’m not sure I really have a least favourite show, if I don’t like it I don’t watch it, but there’s not really anything that I don’t like that’s really stuck with me enough to take that title!
Most re-watched show/favourite show to binge-watch?
I could watch Sherlock over and over again – I’ve certainly watched it several times, and I’ll never say no to re-watching an episode or two (or more) of The West Wing. I also loved being able to binge-watch season four of Lucifer now it’s on Netflix.
Do you prefer watching week-by-week or binge-watching?
Honestly I don’t think I have a preference – I’m old enough to remember watching Casualty on a Saturday night being a family event back in the days where recording meant hoping you got the settings right on a VCR and not pressing a button, or just catching up on demand. That said I will happily sit and watch episode after episode of a show if it’s available – and I do love a good cliffhanger!
Favourite TV characters?
Oh there are so many! Some that come to mind are:
Ziva from NCIS – I adored Ziva, she was pretty fierce although I was most definitely not a Tiva fan!
Meredith from Grey’s Anatomy – Meredith is another powerful female – she’s actually grown on me even more post Derek showing that she doesn’t need a man to succeed.
Hotch from Criminal Minds – I know there was a lot of drama surrounding Thomas Gibson’s exit but I can’t help but miss Special Agent Hotchner on the show
Gibbs from NCIS – There’s just something about Gibbs that makes me smile, I think he reminds me a little of my dad, slightly gruff but you know deep down he cares and there’s not much he wouldn’t do for his family.
President Bartlet from The West Wing – Honestly I could have picked pretty much any of the main cast from The West Wing; Sam, Leo, Toby, Josh, CJ and Donna I adored them all but in the end I had to go for the leader in chief.
Jack Hodgson from Silent Witness – Now I love Nikki and I did love Harry but there’s something extra that Jack’s character brings to the show. He’s a little rough and ready but a great scientist, I also really like the way they’ve been exploring some deeper storylines with his character recently.
Favourite TV ships?
This is another huge list! Some were actually together, others I just wanted to happen!
Meredith & DeLuca from Grey’s Anatomy – Now I may be in the minority but I actually prefer Meredith with Deluca rather than Derek.
Hotch & JJ from Criminal Minds – One of the never happened ones… I did love the idea of the two of them together!
Brennan & Booth from Bones – Sometimes the will they, won’t they is great, but then when they actually get together it goes downhill. Fortunately for me they continued be wonderful once they were together!
Jack & Nikki from Silent Witness – Now I loved the idea of Nikki and Harry together back in the day but the idea of Jack and Nikki has grown on me more. Unfortunately after the events of the last series it seems unlikely to happen.
Josh & Donna from The West Wing – Oh these two were such a brilliant couple even when they weren’t a couple. Let’s be honest really even right at the beginning they were a couple, it just took them a while to realise it.
Will & Mac from The Newsroom – It took these two a while to work it out but I was so happy when they finally did!
Cormoran & Robin from Strike – Does this count? I guess it does now the books have been adapted… I shipped them from the books though!
Show you could never get into?
There are a few massively hyped shows that I’ve just never clicked with, there are three immediately that spring to mind: Lost, Supernatural and Game Of Thrones.
Show you fell out of love with?
It’s not so much that I no longer like these shows, if they were on I’d still watch them but there are a few shows I used to watch a lot and then lost the urge to make sure I saw them every week.
Beauty and the Beast – To begin with I watched this all the time, but there’s definitely a whole season I’ve never got around to watching, maybe two.
Elementary – I think this and Sherlock began around the same time and I was in my element, I love Sherlock Holmes! Over the years though I’ve slowly stopped watching Elementary on a weekly basis, I still enjoy it when it’s on but I don’t make a major effort to find it. I’m a few seasons behind now.
How To Get Away With Murder – I absolutely adored the first season, and I think I watched some of the second but I think the show is on season five…
Scandal – Again the first few seasons I watched religiously and then I just stopped, I don’t think there was a particular reason I stopped watching, I think it was just a case of there’s only so much time for TV watching in the week and there were other shows I’d rather watch.
Cancelled too soon?
Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip – With The West Wing I fell in love with Aaron Sorkin, Studio 60 was his next show and I’m still devastated it only lasted a single season.
The Newsroom – Another Aaron Sorkin series which didn’t last as long as I would have liked. I think the current climate would be the perfect time to bring it back!
Code Black – I loved this medical drama, and not just because of Rob Lowe, I was so sad when they announced it was cancelled.
Guilty pleasure show?
American “reality” TV shows for sure. MTV’s Teen Mom, several of the Real Housewives franchises and Vanderpump Rules for sure!
Currently watching?
On my TV as I type this is season 7 of Teen Mom OG! I did also binge watch season two of Derry Girls earlier today.
Did any of your favourite TV shows pop up in my answers? What would you have picked instead? Let me know in the comments!

There are lots we agree on here, mainly the West Wing and Grey’s! I also stopped watching Scandal, though there was a reason for me which was that I felt the violence and torture was getting to be too much. I signed up for a show about politics Shonda, not one where people get their heads stoved in with chairs 🙄

I didn’t mind the violence so much, it just got a little same-y and I got a bit bored I think…

Hahaha I feel like Lost is always listed as one of those shows people can’t get into, but it’s one of my favorites! I do tend to like shows that are bizarre… 🙂 I really need to watch the West Wing!

I will always recommend The West Wing! Over the seasons it dragged me through every emotion possible – it’s so funny at points, and then absolutely heartbreaking at times!
I remember being at my grandparents and watching the first episodes of Lost with my granddad I think we both got to the polar bear and just turned to each other and said nope – we’re out!

My parents used to watch The West Wing, and it became a firm favourite of mine pretty quickly!
I’m so excited about the next season of NCIS – for obvious reasons if you’ve seen the season finale!

I’d highly recommend all three series! Although I’m not sure if they’re on demand anywhere now…

Also. I loved Derek but I do think I like DeLuca more. If Derek hadn’t died he’d have cheated on her, and Meredith deserves better than that

I found Derek very selfish – he always put his career first, even when together they’d decided it was her turn…
