Six For Sunday: Bookish Wishes – Characters That Deserve Another Book

Each book is its own little world, filled with an array of fantastic characters, and sometimes you fall so in love with a character, and become so invested that even if their story is complete you still want it to continue, to know what comes next for them. Sometimes it’s a secondary character that jumps out at you and you just want to hear more about them, to see them take centre stage in their own story. Today’s prompt from Steph has me looking back at some of these characters and trying to pick just six that I’d love to catch up with again!

Characters That Deserve Another Book

Coming up with my list of six characters was so difficult! There are so many characters I love, and I’m fortunate that with my love of crime fiction there are plenty that are part of long running series that I get to revisit again and again and again. There are plenty of these characters where I eagerly await the next book, looking forward to finding out the next chapter in their story, characters like Cormoran and Robin, and Kelly Porter, you won’t find them in my list below though as I’ve tried to limit it to characters whose original stories are complete, and there are no plans for any further books (as far as I know)

Liam Gerling – Everless by Sara Holland

Liam really intrigued me in the Everless duology, starting out as the aloof, seemingly dangerous and ruthless older brother of the lovable Roan he turned into so much more. Sent away to school as a child I’d love to discover what his years at Bellwood were like. In fact, as I’ve said before I’d take anything set in Sempera, give me an anthology of short stories and I’m all over it!

Silyen’s story tied itself up pretty neatly at the end of Bright Ruin, as such he doesn’t really need another story. That said throughout the trilogy Silyen is the one character who continuously left me second guessing my own thoughts about him. He’s such a fascinating character I’d love to see him feature in another book. Also Gavar, my opinion of him completely changed over the series so I’d take more of him too… In fact can I have another anthology?

Maddie Manchester – Not If I Save You First by Ally Carter

Dear Logan,

This was the first Ally Carter book I read and I really loved Maddie. Ally is well known for writing series – even if I haven’t read them yet! I haven’t seen any plans for Ally to continue this story, but I’ve not completely given up hope! I’d love to follow Maddie as she grows up, especially if she follows her dad into the Secret Service!

Lee Scoresby and Will Parry – His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman

When Lyra’s friend Roger disappears, she and her dæmon, Pantalaimon, determine to find him.

I really need to re-read this series, I meant to do it before La Belle Sauvage came out but didn’t get around to it. I will before The Secret Commonwealth though! I remember loving the character of Lee, he was an adventurer, and although his story is complete in the trilogy I’d love to find out more about his past, some of the time between Once Upon A Time In The North and Northern Lights.

I also adored Lyra and Will and always wondered what happened after they left each other at the end of the story. With The Secret Commonwealth we’re going to get to catch up with Lyra and get the next part of her story so now I’m even more eager to find out what came next for Will!

Hedda – Countless by Karen Gregory

Countless is a story that I really connected with when I first read it – perhaps because as a teenager I had a very close friend who battled with anorexia. Countless had a very hopeful, but realistic ending, but I’d certainly love to catch up with Hedda again a few years later to see how she’s doing.

Hermione Granger – Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

But doing so will bring him into contact with forces more terrifying than he ever could have imagined.

I know that with the epilogue and The Cursed Child we have some sort of update about what came next for Hermione but I’d love to see a book where she is front and centre! Now preferably this book would completely ignore the epilogue, alternatively it might fill in the gaps and actually convince me that Ron grew up enough to be in a relationship with Hermione because I’ve honestly never got it… It would take A LOT to convince me though!
