Six For Sunday: Kids Lit Represent – 2018 Kids Lit Must Reads!

Good morning everyone! I’m delighted to be continuing this month’s Six for Sunday Kids Lit Represent theme with some 2018 Kids Lit Must Reads!

2018 Kids Lit Must Reads!

So my twist on today’s prompt is that these aren’t six books from 2018 that I’m telling everyone else they have to read, but six books from 2018 that I need to read.

So here’s the deal, I’m not a big kids lit, middle grade reader, I loved reading as a child but since I moved up to YA and adult fiction I haven’t really read many books for younger readers. That said my Goddaughter is now eight and is becoming quite a prolific reader. Over the years I’ve always bought her books for Christmas and Birthdays. Her christening present was the beginnings of a library with some of my favourite childhood books but now she has a lot of them it’s time to start reading some current books so that I can either buy them for her or at least know what she’s talking about!

Amelia Fang and the Unicorn Lords by Laura Ellen Anderson

This is the second book in the Amelia Fang series, now I’ve not read the first book either but my Goddaughter loves these books, they read one at school, when we went to Waterstones just after Christmas she picked another in this series and I bought her the most recent release just before we went on holiday. Despite taking another book with her she was already halfway through by the end of the week. I really need to catch up with Amelia so I know what she loves so much

My Mum Tracy Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson

I’ll admit Tracy Beaker wasn’t MY Jacqueline Wilson book growing up, that was The Suitcase Kid, I was lucky enough to meet Jacqueline at my local library when I was 10 and get a copy signed, I also named my giant cuddly rabbit Radish. That said I did quite like Tracy Beaker so this follow up has me intrigued, the other half of me is concerned picking it up might slightly tarnish my childhood memories…

Wundersmith: The Calling of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend

So Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow has been on my to read list since November 2018. Many of the bloggers I trust implicitly have said many good things about the first book in the series and it sounds fantastic so I really need to catch up and get to Wundersmith!

Sky Song by Abi Elphinstone

This is another book that several of my closest blogger friends have read and raved about. I did buy Abi’s World Book Day short story earlier this year so I must pick up Sky Song. Plus the cover is gorgeous!

Tilly and the Bookwanderers by Anna James

From the moment Anna announced this novel I’ve been in love with the premise, I bought the book not long after it was published but it’s still sitting on my shelves unread. It is in some great company, there are a lot of unread books on my shelves! That said knowing Tilly and the Lost Fairytales is coming later this year may just be the prompt I need to get this read!

A Spoonful of Murder by Robin Stevens

Admittedly I still have the very first story in the Murder Most Unladylike Mystery series to read but my dear friend Amy would possibly never forgive me if I didn’t include Hazel and Daisy’s return after a year or so away from the literary world – and I do want to get to it so it’s not cheating really!
