Happy Thursday everyone! I don’t know about all of you but I’m certainly looking forward to the end of the week and it’s fast approaching! Work has been crazy busy recently and I’ve not been getting through as many books as I would like, but I’d like to keep the content coming on the blog so I figured I’d start doing some different tags on Thursdays. Fortunately for me the Queen of Tags Amy from Golden Books Girl is one of my closest blogging friends and she has been fantastic in throwing some great links my way, including today’s tag The 5 Ws Book Tag – I hope you enjoy it!

The 5 Ws Book Tag
1 – WHO? Who is an author you’d love to have a one on one with?
I have to pick just one?! What an incredibly cruel start to a tag, I can’t possibly narrow it down to just one! 12 year old me would probably have picked J.K. Rowling just because Harry Potter and I would have talked her ear off about Hermione (slightly older me would have asked her what she was thinking putting Hermione with Ron). If I attempt to narrow it down now I’d probably pick Vic James, I absolutely adore Dark Gifts and I have so many questions to ask her about slave days and The Equals. I also have many things to say to her about the feelings she made me go through following the three Jardine brothers!
2 – WHAT? What genre or style do you most gravitate to?
I think that would have to be mystery / crime / thriller-y type things. I’ve not got quite as much in the way of YA thrillers as I would like although I adore Karen M. McManus and I have a couple of M. A. Bennett books to read (if you’ve got any suggestions please feel free to leave them in the comments!) The vast majority of my adult novels are some form of police procedural or psychological thriller. I must confess to having a new found appreciation of YA fantasy too thanks to books like the Dark Gifts trilogy and the Everless duology.
3 – WHERE? Where do you prefer to read?
I seem to do an awful lot of my reading in bed… I have a wonderfully comfy double bed which is covered with pillows, cushions and throws, I also have an electric blanket which has been especially welcome over winter! I have just re-arranged my bedroom though and am setting up a little reading area with a chair and a footstool that I’m planning on using a little more going forward
4 – WHEN? What time of the day do you prefer to read?
At the weekend I’ll read pretty much any time, or all day if I have nothing else planned. During the week I leave for work kinda early in the morning – I’m on the 6:18 train and quite often the train is that packed there’s no space to read so by default most of my reading during the week happens in the evening once I’ve made it home and had dinner.
5 – WHY? Why is your favourite book your favourite book?
First question, what on earth is my favourite book… I am a huge fan of To Kill A Mockingbird – I have at least 3 different versions of it, and I’m pretty tempted to buy a new copy anytime I see a particularly pretty edition… Why is it my favourite? I think it’s probably very much related to the time it came into my life, it was the book we studied for GCSE English, now as a mixed race female growing up in a very white part of rural Devon in the 80s and 90s my dad had always made sure I understood black history and the Civil Rights Movement but something about To Kill A Mockingbird really connected with me, some fantastic themes run through the novel, and even though I’ve not re-read it for a while now I could probably still quote certain passages to you… Writing this has made me want to buy a new copy now as I’m pretty sure all of mine are back in Devon, still not reading Go Set A Watchman though…
BONUS! How do you go about selecting what you’ll read next?
That’s a very good question, if I’m reading to a deadline for a blog tour etc then that will determine it otherwise it tends to just be whatever I like the look of when it becomes time to pick up another book. Alternatively I’ll throw titles at a couple of friends and see which they suggest!

Those are my answers to the 5 Ws Book Tag – I’d love to see yours so feel free to leave your answers in the comments, or drop me a link if you create your own post!

Loved reading your answers to this 💜💜. In relation to To Kill a Mockingbird, is How High the Moon on your radar? I’ve heard comparisons to TKAM for that and it sounds incredible (ot next month).

It wasn’t but I just looked it up and it sounds so good will be interesting to see how the themes are dealt with in an MG novel
