Six For Sunday – My Bookish Loves

Six for Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Steph at ALITTLEBUTALOT. You can find a list of prompts from January to June 2019 here

Bookish Loves

Bookish loves… This could mean so many things, things I love about books themselves, or things I love within books, my favourite genres, types of characters, the things I hope to read. So I’ve decided to do a bit of everything, why not it’s my blog after all!

Hidden Beauty and Special Editions…

Genuinely there are few things that excite me more about buying a hardback than removing the dust jacket and finding an absolutely stunning cover hidden beneath. I do especially love a special edition as well. I have the special edition of La Belle Sauvage, I’m so tempted to get the collectors editions of VE Schwab’s books just because they’re pretty!

All Things Dark and Twisty

Now I’m not a big out and out horror reader, I’ve never read a Stephen King novel but I have always loved a crime thriller that edges towards the dark and twisty end of the spectrum

Capable Females!

I love a adventure thriller type book with a capable female lead. Characters that can take the lead and don’t need a man to rescue them constantly. I loved that Hermione was the brains of the Golden Trio and the way Maddie takes control in Not If I Save You First.

YA Fantasy Stories

This is something that has definitely grown on me since I started blogging. I’d never been much of a fantasy fan, I mean I loved Harry Potter growing up but Lord of the Rings has never done anything for me. I’ve been reading more YA Fantasy though and I can’t get enough of books like the Dark Gifts trilogy and the Everless duology.

Unusual Premises

Like all book bloggers and book lovers in general I read a lot so I love it when a book pops up with an unusual premise. Now don’t get me wrong I will happily read police procedural after procedural but something a little different like Anthony Horowitz’s Hawthorne novels will always excite me!

Surprise endings

See above I read a lot of books so when I don’t see the twist or ending coming that is THE BEST thing ever! With the caveat that the twist has to be believable – don’t just throw an impossibility in there that doesn’t fit with anything that has gone before just to surprise me, put a twist in so that when I look back through previous chapters I can see the hints I missed!

They were my #SixforSunday! If you’ve taken part leave a link to your post below and I’ll be sure to check it out!
