Welcome to a Magical Britain – Featuring JK Rowling, Vic James and Ben Aaronovitch 

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series, Vic James’s Dark Gifts trilogy and Ben Aaronvitch’s Rivers of London series all feature Magical Britains but each series has a different take on how the magic works. I love all the series so I’d love to get them all in a room together and talk about what made them use magic in the way they have.

Thrilling YA – Featuring Karen M. McManus, M. A. Bennett and S. K. Wright

One of Us Is Lying was one of my favourite books of 2017 and seemed to kickstart a bit of a resurgence in YA thrillers (or at least me noticing them) ahead of Two Can Keep A Secret being released next year I’d love to get her in a room with M.A. Bennett and S.K. Wright who have also written popular YA thriller mystery type books. I have both of them sitting on my shelves although I’ve not read them yet!

A Whole New World – Featuring Sara Holland, Holly Black and Kendare Blake

YA Fantasy has become a bit of a staple of my reading list, which I must confess surprised me! Everless was another of my favourite books of 2017. Holly Black and Kendare Blake have both written fantasy books that are high on my TBR. I’d love to see how they came up with their fantasy realms.

A Celebration of Scottish Crime – Featuring Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, James Oswald, Alex Gray and Stuart MacBride

Over the years I’ve read a lot of Scottish crime. The classic Rebus by Ian Rankin set in Edinburgh, Val McDermid’s cold case investigator DI Karen Pirie, the paranormal Inspector McLean series from James Oswald, Alex Gray’s Glaswegian DCI Lorimer and Stuart MacBride’s Aberdonian Logan McRae are all fantastic so I’d love to get them all in the same room and quiz them!

Astonishing Debuts – Featuring Angie Thomas, Tomi Adeyemi and Becki Albertalli

This panel is filled with authors who absolutely exploded onto the YA scene with their first published novels I think it would be fascinating to know how their lives changed from the challenges of finding an agent and getting that first book deal to finding themselves on book tours with huge numbers of fans and signing movie deals.

That Difficult Second Book – Featuring Angie Thomas, Karen M. McManus and Laura Steven

So some of my above dream panellists are back for a second event! The Hate You Give, One Of Us Is Lying and The Exact Opposite Of Okay were all hugely popular debuts. 2019 sees the release of new novels from all three authors so I’d love to see how their experiences writing their second published novel differed from their first.
