It’s been far too long since I took part in a Top Ten Tuesday but I saw this week’s prompt and there was no way I could let this week pass me by as well! I’m fortunate enough to have visited a couple of places on this list, but the rest are on my still to visit list!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme currently hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl
Bookstores/Libraries I’ve Always Wanted to Visit
New York Public Library – Main Branch
I stopped in at the main branch of the New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue during my week in New York I few years ago, the architecture is stunning and I’d love to go back. Last time I was there I saw The Gutenberg Bible which was stunning, but there are so many other treasures I’d love to see, they have the original Winnie-the-Pooh, but he was away for conservation treatment when I visited.
The British Library – London
I walked past The British Library so many times while I was living in London and walking between Kings Cross and St Pancras but never actually visited, I was so disappointed I couldn’t get down during the Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition.
Scottish National Library – Edinburgh
This is the legal deposit library in Scotland, sitting on the George IV bridge in Edinburgh I actually visited it for the first time in September. I swear walking in on what appears to be the ground floor and discovering you’re actually on the 12th will never stop confusing me.
Barnes and Noble – Fifth Avenue, NYC
I stopped in here on my New York trip, while I’m sure there are many more hidden gems in NYC I did manage to pick up a great board game for my friend’s Christmas present and there were so many pretty Barnes and Nobel editions I would have loved to have picked up should my luggage allowance have let me!
Livraria Ler Devagar – Lisbon
This is a bookshop that’s on my must see list, if I make it to Lisbon any time soon this is a must visit for me, it looks absolutely beautiful, I love the bike hanging from the ceiling!
Word On The Water – London
I lived on the outskirts of London for 18 months and never made it here, but I love the idea of a floating bookshop sitting on a canal.
Bodleian Library – Oxford
Because Lyra…
Livraria Da Vila – São Paulo
If I’m ever in São Paulo I’m visiting this place, it just looks incredible!
The Last Bookstore – Los Angeles
Another must visit – At home in an old bank the displays look amazing. Plus crime fiction is (or at least was) stored in the old bank vault
The Academic Bookstore – Helsinki
Another stunning building housing books! This is totally me, so when I make it Finland…
So there we have my top ten libraries and bookstores I would love to visit again or for the first time. Are there other places I should add to my travel list? Let me know in the comments!

I was really sad to miss the Harry Potter exhibition at the British Library too! It was during my exams sadly and I couldn’t justify the trip 😭

I live in Scotland these days and I just couldn’t justify the expense, trains can be so costly!

The amount of times I walked past it rushing between stations when I lived in London but never went in is crazy! Now I’m in Scotland it seems unlikely unless I happen to be in London for something else.

If I’m ever in London again it’s on my list – I’m so annoyed I didn’t realise it existed during the 18 months I was working in London!

That’s one of the few I have made, I just want to go back and see Winnie-the-Pooh! Growing up I went to the same church as Christopher Robin’s daughter Claire and she was the loveliest person, and I’ve always loved the stories so I’d love to see the original toys

Agh I wish I could have gone to the Harry Potter exhibition at The British Library, I would have loved to have seen it, but it was on whilst I was in Uni, and I couldn’t justify the trip down from Scotland!

If you’re ever in Portland, be sure to visit Powell’s City of Books. You can spend a day there.
