Today’s Six For Sunday is all about our favourite trilogies and series – trying to narrow all the series I love down to just six would be far too cruel a task to even contemplate!
So instead I’ve narrowed it down and I’m just picking from the trilogies and series where a book has been published in 2018 or there is a new book due for release in the next few months!
Favourite Trilogies or Series
Dark Gifts by Vic James – How could any list of my favourite series not include this trilogy by Vic James? Set in an alternative but contemporary world Britain is ruled by an elite group of families capable of magic, while those families without magic are forced to give up ten years of their life to work their slave days. Filled with magic, intrigue, deception, rebellion and some of the most delicious characters who will leave you questioning them right until the end Bright Ruin completed this trilogy back in July.
Inspector McLean by James Oswald – Crime fiction this time. The Inspector McLean series combines crime with a hint of fantasy in a way that just keeps me devouring these books! Wonderful characters, interesting crimes and great writing just keep me coming back for more! The Gathering Dark was the eighth book in the series, published back at the beginning of the year, and a ninth book Cold As The Grave is due out in 2019!
Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch – Another crime fiction fantasy mash up! In Rivers of London PC Peter Grant finds himself assigned to a very specialised unit, so specialised that there is only one other member of the team based at The Folly, DCI Thomas Nightingale. A world full of magic, crime and wonderful characters – especially the London River Goddesses – awaits anyone who picks up these books. Lies Sleeping is the seventh book in the series and due for release next month. I already have the audiobook on pre-order!
Everless by Sara Holland – Some fantasy YA! I read Everless at the start of the year and fell in love with the concept where time literally is money. Again I love the characters, I adore Jules and can’t wait to see what she gets up to next! Also just like Vic James, Sara has created some wonderful characters that have me guessing which side of everything they’re truly on, I love it! Evermore is due out in January 2019!
DI Kelly Porter by Rachel Lynch – The DI Kelly Porter books are a series of crime novels bases in the Lake District. A fantastic mix of police procedural, with a fascinating case solved in each book, and character growth and development across the series. All three books in the series so far have been released this year and I’m really hoping I’m not having to waiting too long for a fourth!
Cormoran Strike by Robert Galbraith – I couldn’t possibly create a list like this and not include a series with a brand new release that I’ve been waiting for since 2015! A slightly different take on a crime series, where the lead character is a private detective rather than a police officer. I’ve loved this series since the very beginning, Strike is a fantastic character, I love his backstory and the fact he’s not perfect, and Robin is just delightful! Lethal White was published in September and I’m so looking forward to watching the TV adaptation, I love Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger as Cormoran and Robin, and the BBC have said this will be split into 4 parts!
There were so many different ways I could have taken this prompt so I hope you’ve enjoyed my list of six series that have been expanded recently! They were my #SixforSunday! If you’ve taken part leave a link to your post below and I’ll be sure to check it out!
