Reasons You Love Books
You Can Take Them Anywhere – They’re portable! Want to read in bed? In the bath? On the way to work? Not a problem! Reading is one of those hobbies / past times that you don’t need anything special for, you can just pick up a book and go. You don’t need to worry about your battery running out like you might do if you’re trying to watch Netflix on your phone or tablet. You don’t need a lot of space, you can just find a little corner and read, it’s not like trying to play football in the middle of a park on a summer’s day, you’re not going to upset anyone, and finding a spot outside in the sun to read is one of my favourite things to do!
They Can Take You Anywhere – Books kindly return the favour of you taking them out into the wild on your travels by being able to transport you anywhere in time and space. One day I’m curled up on the couch and I’m in an American High School, a week later I might be in Victorian London, and the next week I might not even be on earth. I just love immersing myself in another world.
They Can Make You FEEL – Generally speaking I don’t really do emotion, I’ve always had a bit of a reputation as an ice queen but every now and then I love a book that absolutely breaks me!
They Encourage Creativity – Humans have been storytellers for years, with tales and mythology being passed down through word of mouth and then written, I’m sure everyone has read a book that’s made them think they would love to be a writer. For me I’ve loved books since my parents taught me to read at three, but the first series I really remember fully drawing me into its world has to be Harry Potter, I remember thinking how amazing it would be to create an entire world just from your imagination! Every now and then I still get the urge to write, but I don’t think I have the persistence to ever try and actually write something worthy of being published.
They Can Teach You Something – Books let you walk in another’s footsteps if only for a brief period. If you let them they can give you an insight into the reality of life for another. There’s still work to do with the variety and accuracy of representation in the literary world but I think the potential to help the world understand each other better is huge!
They’re Always There – No matter what books are always there, whatever your mood you’ll be able to find something to suit (especially with a TBR the size of mine!) whether I want to curl up on the sofa with a book that lets me escape to a completely different world, one that makes me laugh or one that makes me cry there’s something for me to dive into!
