I loved looking back over the books I read last year for this topic, but keeping it to six was so difficult! I discovered a lot of new crime writers that I really enjoyed and thanks primarily to #SundayYA and the wonderful blogging community I rediscovered my love of YA fiction which I hadn’t really read since I was a teenager.
Six for Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Steph at ALITTLEBUTALOT. You can find a list of the 2018 prompts here
New Authors I Discovered In 2017
Marissa Meyer – I discovered Heartless all the way back in February 2017 and after that I was determined to read the Lunar Chronicles – I’ve still not got around to it, but I am very excited to have the Renegades ARC on my iPad to read next month
Carol Wyer – Carol has been writing for a little while, she began with a blog and moved onto contemporary novels. Last year she published her debut crime novel which was when I discovered her, I’m certainly a fan of her lead character DI Robyn Carter!
Patricia Gibney – Patricia released her first crime novel with Bookouture in 2017, and there are now 3 in the DI Lottie Parker series. I’m looking forward to the fourth.
Maggie Harcourt – I read Unconventional as part of the SundayYAthon at Easter last year. I adored it and cannot wait for Theatrical!
Daniel Cole – Daniel released his debut novel Ragdoll last year. It was an incredible piece of crime fiction, the visuals are perhaps not for the faint-hearted! The follow up Hangman is out next month and the ARC is sitting on my iPad ready to read next week!
Vic James – Vic really needs no introduction from me. Despite Gilded Cage being released right at the beginning of the year I didn’t discover her until September. I flew through both Gilded Cage and Tarnished City, I cannot wait for Bright Ruin but I know I will be devastated to know that I’ve reached the trilogy, and having watched an interview with Vic I’m a little bit concerned about what she has planned!
These certainly aren’t the only authors I discovered last year, and there are a lot of amazing authors I’ve not listed above such as Brigid Kemmerer, Karen Gregory, Helen Phifer, Jeff Giles and J.D. Barker. Even that doesn’t exhaust my list!
They were my #SixforSunday! If you’ve taken part leave a link to your post below and i’ll be sure to check it out!

I love Vic James but I am not at all ready for the series to be over.

My feelings have barely recovered from Tarnished City, and I think Bright Ruin might be even more ruthless!

I have heard things that suggest it will be brutal

Great list, I really need to read Gilded Cage! Maybe one for the February TBR. If you enjoyed Heartless I really recommend The Lunar Chronicles – they are much better in my opinion! 🙂

Oh you must! Tarnished City gets even better so I have high hopes for Bright Ruin although I’ll be devastated to reach the end of the trilogy!
I have Renegades on my February TBR so after that I think I’ll try and pick up Cinder!
