TMGAbout The Book

When Anna Flores’ adored older sister goes missing as a teenager, Anna copes by disappearing too, just as soon as she can: running as far away from her family as possible, and eventually building a life for herself abroad.

Thirty years later, the death of her mother finally forces Anna to return home. Tasked with sorting through her mother’s possessions, she begins to confront not just her mother’s death, but also the huge hole Gabriella’s disappearance left in her life – and finds herself asking a question she’s not allowed herself to ask for years: what really happened to her sister?

The Teaser

I thought at first that you’d be back. I only had to wait, away in the woods where the birds were as silent as I was, as if they missed you too. O took to wearing your coat, my hands pushed in the pockets, playing with the bus tickets and the dust and the dried-up sweets I found there. Sometimes I thought I saw you, running ahead, weaving amongst the trees, but it was only sunlight glinting through the branches, or the wind brushing its fingers through the leaves. Other times I heard you laugh, but it was only water flowing over stones in the stream or birds suddenly finding their voices. It was as if you’d never existed, or else you’d disintegrated and scattered on the breeze.
