The Harry Potter Tag

I’ve seen this one on a few blogs and despite not being tagged myself it’s Harry Potter so obviously I’m stealing it to do anyway! I spotted it on Louise Bodle’s blog so go check out her answers!

The Questions

What house are you in?

I’m a very proud Slytherin, cunning, ambitious and determined! I would also like to take this opportunity to point out to any house quiz developers that being a Slytherin is not a bad thing! So many quizzes frame any questions relating to obvious Slytherin traits in such a negative way! Yes I’m ambitious, no I’m not going to throw my friend under the bus at the first opportunity just to gain an inch.

What is your patronus?

According to Pottermore my patronus is a Calico Cat, which is pretty cute, but I’m not sure about any meaning behind it.

What is your wand?

12 1/2 inch, Ash Wood with a Dragon heartstring core, hard flexibility.

Wand Woods by J. K. Rowling says the following:-

The ash wand cleaves to its one true master and ought not to be passed on or gifted from the original owner, because it will lose power and skill. This tendency is extreme if the core is of unicorn. Old superstitions regarding wands rarely bear close examination, but I find that the old rhyme regarding rowan, chestnut, ash and hazel wands (rowan gossips, chestnut drones, ash is stubborn, hazel moans) contains a small nugget of truth. Those witches and wizards best suited to ash wands are not, in my experience, lightly swayed from their beliefs or purposes. However, the brash or over-confident witch or wizard, who often insists on trying wands of this prestigious wood, will be disappointed by its effects. The ideal owner may be stubborn, and will certainly be courageous, but never crass or arrogant.

I will admit to having a stubborn streak!

and Wand Cores tells me:-

As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.

I feel I’d enjoy a little flamboyant spell or two… Distract people while I’m casting my real spell! (wandlessly of course)

What would your boggart be?

That’s a good question, I don’t think I have any major obvious fears, I don’t mind spiders, snakes don’t bother me naturally (although I did read about a 5 year old boy who lifted the toilet seat and found a 3ft python, I’ll admit that would probably make me jump)

I think I’d probably be similar to Hermione, and it would be someone telling me I’d failed everything, or something to do with my loved ones dying (ooh that got dark quickly!)

What position would you play in quidditch?

Maybe a beater, I quite like getting stuck in, I tended to play midfield in hockey. More likely you would find me up in the stands cheering on my housemates.

Would you be a pureblood, halfblood or muggleborn?

I think I’d probably be a halfblood, familar with all the pureblood traditions but still enjoying some muggle benefits, like TV, there’s some good TV.

What job would you want to have after graduating Hogwarts?

Good question! Maybe something in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, more lawyer than auror though – Alternatively the Department of Mysteries would be fun, you’d find me in the Brain Room!

Which of the Deathly Hallows would you choose?

I think I’d have to go for the invisibilty cloak, I think my wand suits me, and as much as I’d love another conversation with my grandparents I really don’t think the Resurrection Stone would be healthy in any way shape or form.

Favourite book?

Probably Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – Voldemort backstory and horcruxes! I probably had mixed feelings at the time as I knew it was nearing the end but there was so many interesting bits in the book! Honourable mention to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – I loved the introduction of the other schools, it will also have a place in my heart as I have a copy filled with annotations from other Potter fans I knew through the internet.

Least favourite book?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Spoilers – she killed so many people! My blackened heart may never fully recover

Favourite Film?

Umm, probably Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkban.

Least favourite film?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – Not because it’s a bad film, but because it’s my favourite book, and some I’m more critical about the parts that were omitted.

Favourite character?

I have two, Hermione because I reading the books as a ten year old when they were first released I identified with her so badly! And obviously Severus Snape, dark, mysterious, misunderstood but ultimately one of the bravest characters in the book, I can’t begin to imagine what being a double agent in Voldemort’s ranks would be like.

Least favourite / most hated character

There’s probably the usual, Umbridge, the Carrows, not over keen Fudge. Controversially though I’m putting Dumbledore in the mix #ControversialOpinion

Favourite teacher at Hogwarts?

I’m not sure Severus would be the best teacher, although obviously as a Slytherin I’d be in his good books, I think studying with him one on one as an apprentice without the Dunderheads would be better… I’m going to have to say Professor McGonagall, transfiguration is pretty cool and she’s pretty badass.

Least favourite teacher at Hogwarts?

Umbridge or Lockhart – I’m not sure you can really call either of them teachers though!

Do you have any unpopular opinions about the series?

See thoughts on Dumbledore above. Also not a fan of the epilogue pairings, I’m not sure Hermione would have really been happy with Ron, and Harry basically ended up married to his dead mother… I’m not saying Harry and Hermione should have ended up together, but I didn’t like the end pairings…

If you could save one character from the final battle who would you save?

It would have to be Severus I think, if one character deserved a chance at happiness post Voldemort after everything I think it would be him. I also wish Teddy didn’t have to grow up without his parents but I’m not sure I could pick just Remus or just Tonks to save…

I made it all the way through! That took a little longer than I expected! If you enjoyed that and want to answer the questions at some point in the future consider yourself tagged! If you’d just like to answer a couple of questions in the comments below I’d love to read them!

And there’s more Harry Potter to come as part of my discussion post tomorrow so come back and check it out!

Great answers! I completely agree about Dumbledore, I am not his biggest fan! My wand is 12 3/4 inch, pear wood with a phoenix feather core and my patronus is an osprey. Oh, and I’m a Hufflepuff (even though Pottermore sorted me into Gryffindor!)

I don’t see too many Slytherins! It’s good to see you have House pride, though! And a calico cat sounds like the cutest Patronus! 😀

I don’t like most of the romance in HP, to be honest. None of it really feels natural.
