This or That – 30/01/2017

This or That is a meme hosted by Rae at Bookmark Chronicles. It’s a weekly meme but this is the first one I’ve taken part in.

This weeks scenario…

You’ve just finished book 3 in a series of 6. Book 1 was good, 2 was great, but the one you just finished was…. “meh.” What do you do?

Finish the series ~ Call it quits ~ Put it back on your TBR to finish later

This is a tricky one. I’m notoriously bad for not giving up on books even if I’m not enjoying them. I think it would depend on a couple things:

  1. The type of series – Is it something with a lot of character development within the series? I can’t imagine having given up on a series like Harry Potter where I was invested in what happened to Harry and Hermione. Certain crime series where the focus is on the crime being solved within each story and there’s very little character development then I’d probably find it easier to walk away from it. Of course if there was some sort of cliff hanger at the end of book 3 I’d have to keep going!
  2. The length of the series – If it was only 6 like in this scenario then I would probably keep going and hope that not liking book 3 was just a bit of a blip. If it’s some incredibly long running series with 20+ books I’d probably try book 4 and then decide if I was going to cut my losses

I think in this scenario I’d probably keep going, but I’d put it on my TBR and read something else first rather than going straight into it.

What are your thoughts? Would you keep going or would you give up? Have you ever given up on a series part way through? Let me know below!
